The Theatre

The Theatre is an irregularly shaped 292m² space with a high ceiling, incorporating a lighting grid with gantry walkways above. A double curtain track around the perimeter has full height black serge drapes and a white cyclorama. The floor is double layer plywood on sprung battens with a hardboard finish which can be painted and fixed into.Audience capacity is up to 213 seated on 3 moveable, telescopic units, which allow us a range of performance formats, including ‘end-on’ and ‘in-the-round’.
A full stage management/paging system will be installed before September 2005.

The Theatre sound system comprises; a Soundcraft K1 32 channel sound mixer with a Nexo loudspeaker system flown above the lighting grid. In addition there 4 amplifier channels for monitor speakers and 4 wedge monitors are available for this along with 4 powered wedge monitors.
Sound sources are professional Denon double minidisc players, CD player & CD recorder and a double cassette deck. We have a large range of various professional microphones including 12 radio mics and extensive signal processing with 8 expander/noise-gates, 12 compressors & 2 effects processors.

There is a comprehensive cabling infrastructure allowing patching of inputs and outputs throughout the Performing Arts areas.

Sound Control Room

The Sound Control room acts as the sound hub for all areas, housing the main patch panels and amplifiers as well as the main control desk and source equipment. In addition there is an Apple G5 Power Mac with ProTools 6.4/Digidesign 002 & Apple Logic 7sound recording/editing system which allows the simultaneous recording of up to 16 audio tracks from the main sound desk.The adjoining music room can also be used as a sound studio with the control room. Instruments available include; Yamaha upright piano, a range of keyboards, a Pearl Export drum kit c/w cymbas, Yamaha DTX electronic drum kit & a Peavey Milestone bass guitar.

There is also a 2nd stand-alone recording studio with two more ProTools/Logic sound recording/editing systems, one of which is based on an Apple Powerbook with Digidesign Mbox interface for use on recording projects off-site.

Lighting System

The Theatre lighting system has 96 ways of dimming with 3 24-way Strand LD90 permanent dimmer units and 4 Zero 88 portable dimmer packs, which allows us the flexibility of being able take up to 24 ways of dimming into other venues.

Dance Studio

The Dance Studio is 105m² in size with a 'Junkers' sprung floor and 8' high mirrors along one wall. There is an audio-visual system fitted for playback of Mini-Disc, 3x CDs & audio cassette along with DVD & video on a 42" plasma screen. There is a Yamaha CVP203 Clavinova, 7x moveable ballet barres & 2x large safety mattresses.A Media Suite houses 2 Adobe Premier video editing systems and has 3 Canon miniDV video cameras available with tripods, microphones and video lights..
